Editorial policy
Spirited Movie Review aims to make advice about criticism clear, considered and honest about the difference between a film detail and an interpretation of it.
Accuracy and care
We check factual statements against suitable information before publication and try to separate what can be verified from what a reviewer thinks a choice means. Where a point is uncertain or open to interpretation, the wording should make that clear rather than present a guess as fact.
Independence and partnerships
Editorial choices are made for their relevance to the subject and usefulness to readers. A paid, gifted or otherwise partner-supported contribution will be labelled plainly so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial material. A partnership does not guarantee favourable coverage.
Corrections
If a published piece contains a material error, readers can tell us through the Contact page. We review specific reports and correct confirmed errors, with an explanation where the change affects the meaning of the piece.
Illustrations
Some illustrations on the site are AI-generated. They are illustrative rather than evidence of a film, scene or event, and should not be mistaken for documentary stills.
An opinion should show its workings
A useful review does more than announce a reaction. It connects a point of view to details a reader can picture and consider.
